Keepin' It Real

In life, there are many magical moments and even more not-so-magical moments. A moment is a snapshot in time. We often filter what snapshots we put out into the world or what we put on our holiday cards for all to see. Allow me to remove my filter and give you snapshots of the peaks and valleys that occur in an ordinary day: Yesterday morning after doing my vest & nebs, Myles & I made pancakes together. An accidental spill on my part lead to an impromptu pancake batter food fight. The organic laughter and spontaneity felt magical. For me, this is what life's about! Was there a small voice in my head aware of the huge mess or how the batter was caked in our hair? Absolutely! But it was a small price to pay for the memory and joy. Immersed in the moment, it never occurred to me to take a photo but it felt majestic; as if we were in the snapshot of a movie or commercial. Detour

Traded in the treadmill for my happy place "It doesn't matter how slowly you go as long as you don't stop."                           ~Confucius I've had to take a small detour on my path back to health. At least I have a good view The sea for my soul The salty air for my lungs And perfect cloud cover I'll choose to focus on those things instead of the stink eye a little boy gave me after I waved hello wearing my oxygen :)

My Missing Puzzle Piece

It's been 2 weeks since I came home from the hospital and, in some ways, it feels like the blink of an eye.  It came as no surprise that my health took a few steps backward when I came home, that seems to be the norm nowadays. It makes sense, in the hospital (with the exception of an hour of exercise each day) I'm confined to my room. I focus every ounce of my energy on treatments and am pleasantly distracted by all my hospital buddies. At home real life draws me away from the strict regimen, there are inevitable setbacks, side effects take their toll, and before I knew it, I lost myself in a tsunami; drowning in the constant awareness of how terrible I was feeling, how much work it was to take deep breaths, and how weak my body felt.  I could feel myself getting lost.
